Our vision

Our vision is to bring together proactive thinkers to deliver science backed strategic solutions to ensure the long-term health of the oceans and the goods and services they provide.

Our vision is to advance integrated ocean and coastal governance by creating an inclusive space for interdisciplinary dialogue and education to mitigation and adapt to global environmental pressures.

Our vision is holistic and cross-sectoral with the aim to work with a wide range of stakeholders to address some of the biggest challenges facing marine ecosystems and communities.

About us

The Sustainable Ocean Science (SOS) emblem contains multiple symbolises that encompasses this initiative. Designed with the infinity and wave symbol in mind, it fosters the continuum of sustainable ocean practices. The acronym SOS, which is also the maritime morse code used in emergencies (three dots three dashes three dots) marks the urgency to act.

The aim of this working group is to build a cross-sectoral think tank to streamline sustainable ocean governance.

This project sits within Sydney Environmental Institute’s (SEI) Environmental Justices research theme and focuses on the interlinked and entrenched impacts of social and environmental injustices on a range of populations – human and non-human alike – along with community demands for climate justice and justice in adaptation and resilience planning.
